Sunday, October 27, 2024      October 21-25 Phys Ed and Wellness - Demonstrate decision making through the application of strategies and tactics. - Combine movement skills to perform movement patterns in a variety of physical activities. - Perform movement patterns using various types of equipment, individually and with others. -Consider sequencing and repetition of movement patterns when engaging in locomotor, no-locomotor, and object-manipulation activities. What Did Students Do? This week, students played a variety of games during Phys Ed to develop their accuracy when throwing at a target.  On Take Me Outside Day, student went outside, got into teams and played a game where they had to throw a beanbag onto circle targets. Students also celebrated successes with their teams and opponents.      October 14-18 Science I can analyze climate and connect it to weather conditions. -Explain the importance of weather forecasts. -Investigate methods used to predict the weather.  -Discuss First Nations, Métis, and Inuit methods of predicting weather. -Examine how weather conditions and animal behaviour can be used to recognize weather patterns and cycles.  Truth and Reconciliation Commitments -Each student will represent their learning experience through the lens of two eyed seeing at Fish Creek Park during each season. What Did Students Do? This week, students applied their understanding of weather while investigating a variety of weather maps. They had the opportunity to observe, discuss and apply their understandings about high/low pressure, wind, cloud cover, humidity, temperature and precipitation while working with these maps.     October 7-11 ELAL Arrange and express ideas logically, using interesting details in sentences. What Did Students Do? This week, students worked on expanding sentences using the 5Ws. They looked at kernel sentences that had very few details. We discussed and practiced how to do this. Students also had an opportunity to practice this skill by writing about Terry Fox and his Magical Yet. See below for some examples of student work.   October 1 - 4th Social Studies Students will demonstrate an understanding of the people and the stories of Canada and their ways of life over time, and appreciate the diversity of Canada’s heritage. ELAL Students analyze information, contexts, and perspectives using a variety of comprehension strategies. Students enhance the accuracy and artistry of expression through creative and critical thinking processes What Did Students Do? Students watched videos and listened to/read stories about Terry Fox.  They shared facts and information they already knew and discussed new things they learned. Students wrote a paragraph on what they knew about Terry Fox and connected it back to The Magical Yet. They then created a visual journal page with an illustration that connected to Terry Fox and some facts they learned about him.
