October 14-18
Science
I can analyze climate and connect it to weather conditions.
-Explain the importance of weather forecasts.
-Investigate methods used to predict the weather.
-Discuss First Nations, Métis, and Inuit methods of predicting weather.
-Examine how weather conditions and animal behaviour can be used to recognize weather patterns and cycles.
Truth and Reconciliation Commitments
-Each student will represent their learning experience through the lens of two eyed seeing at Fish Creek Park during each season.
What Did Students Do?
This week, students applied their understanding of weather while investigating a variety of weather maps. They had the opportunity to observe, discuss and apply their understandings about high/low pressure, wind, cloud cover, humidity, temperature and precipitation while working with these maps.

Students also had the opportunity to go to Fish Creek Park to use two eyed seeing to observe and notice weather. Students tracked weather using scientific tools and they were invited to notice how weather conditions were signalling a change in season. It was a beautiful day for a walk and students measured the temperature at various points in Fish Creek. read a hygrometer for humidity and we tried to measure wind. Students listened to a story about the interconnectedness of the land. We discussed reciprocity and how to give back to the earth after an afternoon filled with many gifts and new learnings.
Look for more info, photographs and samples of student work from our walking field trip that will be displayed in our learning commons for you to see during Parent Teacher Conferences.
