Writing
-Consider how personal interests, experiences, or perspectives might influence how texts are understood or created.
-Investigate background information about the author or text creator to provide context for informational texts.
-Evaluate how an author’s selection of a method or tool can impact the audience’s understanding or response to a text.
What did students do?
The Calgary Public Library hosts a literary arts festival each year featuring writers across a variety of genres. Students had the opportunity to participate in a virtual session with the amazing author, Peter Brown this week.
Peter Brown is the author of many children's books including The Curious Garden and Creepy Carrots. He is probably most well known for the Wild Robot Series.
Then, students engaged in the virtual session hosted by the Calgary Public Library. Peter shared about his life, how he became an author and the process of writing, illustrating and publishing the Wild Robot. He even drew a scene with Roz, the main character in The Wild Robot! Students continued taking jot notes about Peter on their graphic organizer and they drew along with Peter.
Ask your child to tell you about the session, what they learned and how Peter's story inspires them.
