What did students do?
We had a great week after returning from Spring Break. I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break.

This week, students began working on a poetry unit. Students learned about what poetry is. They learned that poets use "the best words in the best order" - Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Students read a variety of poetry books, looking for poems that piqued their interest. They chose a poem that they liked because they enjoyed it, saw beauty or experienced an emotion while reading it. They will share these poems in the coming week. Students learned about Haiku poems, the structure of this type of poem and wrote their own. Students published these poems by created accompanying artwork.

Haiku poems are a form of Japanese poetry that use the format of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and 5 syllables.
