Compare and order numbers

Express the relationship between two numbers, using <, > or =

 What Did Students Do?

This week, students continued their learning around place value. Students investigated how to use greater than, less than and equal to symbols while comparing numbers. Ask your child to tell you how the symbols < and > can be understood as balance scales.  This image may help their explanation:

Students also ordered numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. In small groups and partner groupings, students manipulated number cards in least to greatest order, created mathematical statements using symbols for greater than, less than, equal to, and they played games to build the greater number or identify a number than can be found in between.

Thank you to all of the families who attended our Meet the Teacher night. It was great to connect with you. I hope you enjoyed seeing the learning that your child has been engaged in.
